Bio

Aaron Pelly is pursuing a doctorate in environmental and natural resource sciences at Washington State University (WSU). He grew up in eastern Washington, and previously earned a master’s degree in Environmental Science at WSU, studying how an aquatic plant affects oxygen levels in a local river. In his free time, Aaron enjoys bicycling, hiking and kayaking with his family.

Aaron’s research interests focus on the intersection of basic science and conservation, especially how science can inform and improve management practices. He is currently investigating how aquatic plants affect river ecosystems, with an emphasis on how management of overabundant aquatic plants can improve fish habitat. After completing his degree, he hopes to continue working as an aquatic ecosystem ecologist, either with a management agency or a research-focused organization like a national lab.
