Bio
Brooke Bain-White is an incoming postdoctoral researcher at Western Washington University, where she will be working to identify climate refuges for bull trout (Salvelinus confluentus) within the Pacific Northwest. Brooke has a bachelor’s and master’s degree in environmental science from Western Washington University, and is finishing her doctoral degree in systems ecology at the University of Montana. When Brooke is not doing science, she can be found exploring the mountains on foot, bike or snowboard.
Brooke is driven to conduct limnological research with the potential to improve management and conservation of aquatic ecosystems and the species that rely on them. For her master’s degree, she investigated how historic hard rock mining and contemporary suction dredging changed water chemistry and biological communities in streams in the North Cascades. This research helped inform suction dredge mining legislation reform in Washington State. For her doctoral degree, she is exploring how ongoing environmental changes, namely wildfire, are influencing the chemistry, productivity and clarity of high elevation lakes across the American West.
