Bio
Haley Hudson is a doctoral student in the Department of Integrative Biology at Oregon State University. She studies marine ecosystem ecology and the effects of climate change on marine ecosystems.
While pursuing a bachelor’s degree in ecology and evolution at University of California, Davis, she studied the effectiveness of marine protected areas at preserving ground fish on the northern California coast. After college, she worked at the California Department of Water Resources monitoring fish, zooplankton and water quality in a tidal flood plain. These experiences sparked her passion for connecting science to conservation policy decisions.
Haley is interested in ocean carbon sequestration and mitigating the impacts of climate change on marine ecosystems. She seeks to understand the effects of ocean acidification and low oxygen conditions on the Dungeness crab fishery. She studies the spatial and temporal dynamics of low oxygen zones in the ocean through a collaborative partnership with fishers, agencies and Tribes. In her free time, she enjoys exploring the outdoors through trail running, stand up paddle boarding and skiing.
