Bio
Jenna Morris (she/her) is a doctoral student in the School of Environmental and Forest Sciences at the University of Washington (UW). Jenna grew up in the Intermountain West, developing a love for the outdoors and discovering she could turn it into a career while earning her bachelor’s in biology from Whitworth University. Prior to crossing the Cascades to complete her master’s (and now doctorate) at UW, Jenna worked as a botany field technician for the National Ecological Observatory Network in Boulder, Colorado. In her free time, Jenna enjoys being outside, trying new recipes, visual art and the beautiful game.
Jenna is passionate about supporting climate adaptation and land management decisions in the face of rapid global change. Her graduate work explores effects of disturbances (e.g., fire, insect outbreaks) on forests in the Pacific Northwest and U.S. Rocky Mountains, leveraging field studies, permanent plot networks and landscape modeling to improve our ability to maintain resilient forest structure and function in a changing climate. Jenna’s current research focuses on carbon dynamics and reburn potential following wildfire in forests of western Cascadia.
