Bio

Madison Laughlin (she/her) is a first-year doctoral student at the University of Washington studying forest and fire ecology in the Pacific Northwest. After graduating from Northland College with a degree in natural resources and geology in 2018, Madison returned to her home state of Washington to conduct field work in burned forests across the state. She graduated in 2022 with her master’s degree in environmental and forest sciences from the University of Washington, where she studied the patterns and drivers of conifer regeneration following stand-replacing wildfire in forests west of the Cascade crest in Washington and northern Oregon. Madison’s research interests are broadly related to landscape, disturbance and forest ecology in the context of climate change and land management. During her free time, Madison enjoys playing guitar, caring for her house plants, biking and looking at rocks.
