Bio

Naomi Oberg is a doctoral student at Boise State University, where she studies the relationships between soil microbial communities and plant populations in the sagebrush steppe. Naomi received her bachelor’s degree in biology from Westminster University before pursuing multiple positions with land management agencies where she developed a passion for native plant conservation. In her free time, she loves making time to bike, kayak, hike around in the snow and find a new craft to finish halfway.

Naomi’s research interests are focused around understanding the invisible and often overlooked relationships between plants and their soil microbial communities to better understand how to integrate them into plant restoration efforts. She is particularly interested in understanding how soil microbial communities influence the local adaptation, physiology and spatial patterning of plant populations, focusing on the declining foundational species Artemisia tridentata (big sagebrush).
