Bio
Dr. Paul Loikith is an Associate Professor of weather and climate science in the Department of Geography at Portland State University where he is the director of the Portland State Climate Science Lab. Dr. Loikith’s research interests involve the large-scale mechanisms that drive extreme weather, how these mechanisms are represented in climate models, and to what degree global warming may change them. Specific phenomena of interest include extreme precipitation, atmospheric rivers, extreme temperatures, and atmospheric ridges.
He received a BS in Meteorology and a PhD in Atmospheric Science from Rutgers University and was a Caltech Postdoctoral Scholar at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
