Bio
Rachel Fricke is pursuing a doctorate in aquatic and fishery sciences at the University of Washington, where she previously completed her bachelor’s degrees. She is from Spokane, Washington, and remains partial to the communities and landscapes of the Inland Northwest. In her free time, she enjoys playing guitar, ski touring, biking and climbing.
As a freshwater ecologist, Rachel is broadly interested in understanding human interactions with water to inform conservation of water resources for both human societies and aquatic biota. Her past projects have examined climate impacts on water supplies, risk of waterborne disease transmission, angler transmission of invasive species and lake ecosystem services. Rachel’s current dissertation work leverages big mobile datasets to understand when, where and how people are recreating on lakes.
