Bio

Risa Askerooth is currently pursuing a master’s degree in integrative biology at Oregon State University, where she studies beachgrass on the Pacific Northwest coastal dunes. Prior to starting her graduate degree, Risa received a bachelor’s degree in environmental science from Western Washington University. When not working, Risa loves doing paint by numbers and puzzles, growing houseplants and trail running.

Originally from Oahu, Hawaii, which is experiencing some of the highest rates of species extinction in the world, Risa is drawn to studying invasive species management and native species conservation. In particular, she is interested in investigating ecological questions that lead to more sustainable resource management and engaging community members and other stakeholders in the process. An aspiring community ecologist, Risa hopes to one day work for a resource management organization to conserve resources threatened by climate change, habitat loss or other stressors.
