Bio
Seth Flanders is a doctoral candidate at Washington State University (WSU), where he studies landholders’ perspectives on floodplain connection in the upper Hangman Creek Watershed of Idaho and Washington. Seth received his master’s degree in environmental science from WSU before pursuing his doctorate. In his free time, you can find Seth floating on the Spokane River, running nature trails or performing at a local theater.
Starting in the first cohort of the Rivers, Watersheds, and Communities National Science Foundation Research Traineeship, Seth wanted to pursue community engaged research. Collaborating with the Coeur d’Alene Tribe’s Natural Resources Department, Seth’s research engages with landholders about large-scale floodplain connection and will be informative and beneficial for river restoration and salmon conservation on private lands. After his doctorate, Seth hopes to continue to work with different perspectives and groups to rehabilitate land and water for both human and environmental wellbeing.
