Bio

Sofia Saenz Kruszka is a doctoral student in the Harvey lab in the School of Environmental and Forest Sciences at the University of Washington. She earned her bachelor’s degree in ecology, evolution and biodiversity from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor in 2021. Sofia recently completed her master’s in the Harvey lab focused on how management, wildfire and climate change interact to alter forest structure patterns across a dry forest landscape in eastern Washington. In her free time, Sofia enjoys being outdoors, watching TV and cooking new meals.

Sofia is excited to continue pursuing questions about forest change in response to management and wildfire at the landscape scale. During her doctorate, she hopes to build her skills and knowledge on the topics of ecological modeling, landscape ecology and ecological management in the Pacific Northwest. Sofia is interested in pursuing questions that are most relevant for managers and decision-makers and communicating her science across diverse channels that make an impact on communities beyond academia.
