Bio
Spencer Vieira grew up in the Pacific Northwest and holds a bachelor’s degree in forest sciences from The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington. After working as a forestry consultant, he is now pursuing a master’s degree in systems ecology at the University of Montana. When he’s not doing research, you can find Spencer on the river, under a shady tree or in his wood-fired sauna.
Spencer is interested in investigating questions in the fields of fire ecology and landscape ecology that support forest management. His thesis research focuses on developing a climate suitability model for western larch regeneration. Spencer’s research is aimed at supporting forest managers to develop post-fire reforestation strategies and anticipate geographic changes to western larch’s distribution given climate change.
