Bio
Daphne Bloom grew up in Bedford, Virginia. They hold a bachelor’s degree in biology from Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa, and a master’s degree in ecology and evolutionary biology from the University of Kansas. When not doing research, Daphne loves caring for their house plants, playing video games and watching Drag Race.
Daphne has studied plants and drought responses since the second year of their undergraduate degree, seeking to understand how plants cope with limited water availability. They are currently a doctoral student at the University of Montana with Dr. Anna Sala, studying conifer reforestation in burned landscapes and how hotter and drier environmental conditions influence conifer seedlings’ growth and survival. Through their research they hope to improve forest restoration outcomes in the Pacific Northwest.
