Bio

Will Loftin is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in ecology, evolution, and behavioral Science at Boise State University. Will is studying the Cassia crossbill, a rare songbird found only in Idaho, and aims to create a habitat suitability model and adaptive management strategies for this species. Before starting at Boise State University, Will received a bachelor’s degree in environmental science with a minor in biology at Louisiana Tech University and a master’s degree in biology at Angelo State University. At Angelo State University, they studied and wrote a dissertation on the population genetics of Mississippi kites in the Southern Great Plains. When they’re not doing research, Will enjoys creating digital paintings of birds, reading, baking and birdwatching.

Will’s research interests cover a range of population ecology topics, from population genetics to developing habitat suitability models. These research interests tend to focus on bird species and cover large geographical areas. They also enjoy working and engaging with stakeholders to generate useful and usable research.
